Advance Tax is the part of total tax that a tax payer pays out of his/ her annual tax liability before the end of the financial year i.e March 31. According to the Income Tax Department guidelines, tax payers are liable to pay advance tax on the income where tax liability is more than Rs 10,000 in a financial year and that income is not subject to Tax deducted at source (TDS). All individuals, corporates, self employed professionals, small scale businesses and HUFs comes under the purview of Advance Tax. As we all know the date for filing advance tax is approaching, so here we are making the process of filing advance tax easier for you.

Follow the steps to file your advance tax online :-
STEP I: Visit the official website of Income Tax department http://www.incometaxindia.gov.in/ – Click continue.
STEP II – On clicking continue you will be redirected to a the home page of Income tax department website. Click ‘Pay Taxes Online’ and then on the extended menu click “Pay Tax Online” on the left vertical panel as shown in the picture below.
STEP III – On clicking ‘Pay Tax Online’ system will ask for your permission to take you outside this webpage. Click OK.
STEP IV – On clicking OK system will redirect to the ‘Tax Information Website’ e-payment page to make you pay your advance tax. Click Challan No. / ITNS 280 (Payment of Income tax & Corporation Tax).
STEP V – On clicking on Challan 280, you will be redirected to the advance tax form (as shown below).
STEP VI – Key in all the required fields i.e followed by asterisk (*) symbol
- Tax applicable – select 0020 if you are a registered company else select 0021.
- PAN Account No. – Enter you 10 digit PAN number.
- Assessment Year : Select the assessment year for which you are filing your advance tax like for the financial year 2012 –13 the assessment year will be 2013-14.
- City, State, Pin code.
- Type Of Payment : Select (100) Advance Tax
- Bank Name : Select the name of the bank for which you will make payment for your advance tax. Here for example I am selecting ICICI Bank.
After entering all the mandatory fields press “Proceed” Button at the bottom of the page.
STEP VII – Clicking on Proceed button will display you a confirm data page with all the entries made by you in the advance tax form to recheck and confirm (if all entries are fine) by clicking ‘Submit to the Bank’ else ‘Edit’ for correction.
Step VIII – Your submission will take you the bank Login Page, Here we have taken ICICI bank for example. Click on ‘Personal Retail Login’.
STEP IX – Click on Personal (Retail) Login will take you to the login page for retail customers (as shown in the picture below). Enter your bank User Id and Password and press ‘Payment Login’ to login to your account.
STEP X – On successful login you will land up to the payment page where you need to enter the amount of advance tax to have to pay in the ‘Income Tax’ box and select the account number from which your advance tax amount should be deducted. Click on the ‘Calculate Total’ Button.
STEP XI – Calculate Total button will populate the Total box (as shown in the box above) and then press submit to make the payment. On submit, you will see all the challan details against which you are going to make payment. Enter your internet banking transaction password and hit the Pay button.
STEP XII – Enter the grid from your ATM/ Debit card and hit Pay button to complete the transaction.
STEP XIII – And you are done, you will see a successful payment done message on your screen with a transaction ref. number. Click ‘Proceed’ to see and save the direct Challan Report.
Step XIV – Save or Print your tax challan for future reference.
