As per the KYC (Know Your Customer) guidelines issued by RBI, every bank is required to obtain and maintain updated documents of its account holders.
In an attempt to avoid fraudulent activities, banks update the document of all their account holders periodically. If you have recently opened a bank account, then you would have got KYC done while opening the account and you may not have to submit your documents again any soon. But if you hold a savings bank account from a long time, then you may be required to re-submit your updated documents to the bank.
How To Get Re-KYC Done For Bank Accounts
Besides having KYC done at the time of opening a bank account, customers are periodically required to get re-KYC done. Re-KYC for bank accounts requires following steps.
Banks usually keep in touch with their account holders through SMS’s and mails regarding submission of documents. It is however, advisable to inquire with the banks periodically and check if re-submission of KYC documents is required.
2. Submission Of Documents
If your bank asks you to resubmit self-attested copies of your KYC documents, then you will be required to submit your Identity proof and Address proof. You can resubmit the documents either by visiting the branch physically or online by scanning the documents and uploading them.
For Identity proof, you can submit any of these six documents: Passport, Driving Licence, Voters’ Identity Card, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card issued by UIDAI and NREGA Card. If these documents have your address, then it will be accepted as Address proof, else you will have to submit any other valid document containing your address details.
3. Re-KYC Form
While getting re-KYC done, customers are required to fill a re-KYC form in which personal information and other details are to be provided with signature.
After submission of documents, banks usually take around 10 days to process the request. Your bank will notify you through SMS or e-mail once the request is processed.
Getting re-KYC done is not a cumbersome task. It doesn’t require any hassle. In simple terms, all it requires is submitting the documents mentioned above and filling the re-KYC form. If you have not got re-KYC done for your bank account, then we suggest you to do it right now.
