Do you file your income tax return (ITR) online? What if you forget your password that you had created to file your income tax return (ITR). The income tax website allows only one account with one Permanent Account Number (PAN). So in case you forget your password, you get two options to recover your password. One is you can simply click on the forget password link to reset password.
But here is small twist to reset password online you need to answer the security question that you selected at the time of registration. If you remember the answer of the security question then you can easily activate your account by answering the security question and entering the new password that you want to set to access your account and your account will be activated within24 hours.
But what if you do not remember your security question? In that case you need to write an email to income tax department on firstname.lastname@example.org (New Email ID) with some details like:-
- Name of the Assessee
- Father’s name of the Assessee
- Date of birth (DOB)
- Contact Number
- PAN No
You can take down the above details from your PAN card as the details provided by you via email should match with the details in the records of income tax department.
After mailing all the details on the given email id, you will receive an email with your new password within 2 days and your account will be activated.
But in case you wont get any response of your email from the department with 2 days then you should call at customer care number i.e 0124-2438000. The customer care executive will take down your complaint and provide you the password with 2 to 3 working days.
