Indian Railways : New Timings For Tatkal Reservation Effective From 10th July 2012

After Indian news channels highlighted the misuse of tatkal sewa for railway ticket reservation, now Indian railways have taken steps and revised the guidelines for ticket reservation under tatkal scheme. As per the new guidelines, now passengers can book tatkal tickets from 10:00 AM instead of 8 AM. Which means now tatkal window will open at 10 AM for passengers and during 10 AM to 12 Noon no agent will be allowed to book railway ticket neither from ticket counter nor from internet.

The new revised guidelines for tatkal reservation has come into effect from today i.e 10th July 2012. Which means now if you have to book tatkal ticket then you have to be present at tatkal ticket counter at 10 AM a day before the journey date to book your ticket or you can book you’re the same from railways online portal for ticket reservation.

Indian railways have taken some additional steps to solve the problem of misuse of tatkal scheme under which agents book a big amount of tickets from tatkal and sell the same at higher rate to needy passengers. Lets have a look what all additional measures have been taken by Railways:-

  • Change in timings for tatkal reservation:- Now tatkal ticket reservation will start at 10:00 AM instead of 8 AM.
  • Restriction on issue of duplicate tatkal ticket in normal circumstances.
  • Installation of CCTV cameras over the tatkal booking counter.
  • Helpline number for passengers to complaints against any misuse of tatkal facility.

Earlier railways issued some guidelines for tatkal reservation like reservation period for tatkal reservation reduced to 1 day from 2 days, no refund of confirmed tatkal tickets in normal conditions, maximum four passengers are allowed to travel per PNR for Tatkal tickets.
